Haiti - Economy : «The textile sector will disappear if nothing is done»
On Friday, August 11, 2023, the Haitian leaders of the Union of Textile Workers for the Re-export of Assembly and the Union of Textile and Clothing Workers expressed their satisfaction with certain gains obtained in the union struggle such as the reinstatement of illegally dismissed workers and the payment of statutory benefits.

These two unions have indicated that they have pressured the authorities to create a 5-month social support program worth more than a billion gourdes and that they will work to obtain an increase in the minimum wage and fight against precariousness.

They consider that the first step is the creation of a High Council of Wages and the Board of Directors of Social Security Bodies, in addition to adopting concrete measures to solve the problem of insecurity, which caused the closure of several factories (loss of more than 20,000 jobs out of 60,000 workers in this sector due to criminal activities that prevent the delivery of orders or the receipt of raw materials.

"The textile sector will disappear if nothing is done to curb insecurity," they warned...
