Haiti - Politic : Intervention of the Prime Minister at the high-level meeting of ECOSOC
Thursday, September 21, 2023, as part of the 78th United Nations General Assembly where he will speak on Friday, September 23, 2023 at the UN podium, Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry, spoke at the high-level meeting of the Ad Advisory Group hoc on Haiti from the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), a specialized UN body.

Prime Minister Henry reiterated his Government's determination to work, in partnership with local stakeholders and the international community, to create conditions conducive to a better future for the Haitian people. He also renewed the determination of his government team to strengthen the institutional capacity of the State and to continue providing basic services to our citizens.

He highlighted to the Assembly the urgent priority of his Government which consists of working towards political stability. He also demonstrated his firm desire to restore confidence in our democratic institutions and to work, in close collaboration with his international partners, to organize free, fair and transparent elections.

The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to urge the international community to urgently mobilize additional funds to finance the implementation of the Humanitarian Response Plan and the United Nations Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development in Haiti. "This will help meet the urgent needs of our population, while supporting our long-term efforts."

In this perspective, he called on development partners to invest massively in essential areas, such as food security, health, education, poverty reduction and job creation, saying "These investments are essential for meet the basic needs of our population and create a solid foundation for development."

In this context, the Head of Government recognized the need and responsibility to ensure efficient, effective and transparent management of funds and resources allocated to our country. It is therefore appropriate for the government, argued the Prime Minister, "to measure the real impact on the lives of our fellow citizens."
