Haiti - FLASH : Saut d’Eau attacked at least 11 dead and more than 14 injured

Friday September 22, 2023, heavily armed gang members coming from Canaan and Titanyen aboard vehicles and motorcycles attacked the commune of Saut d’Eau (Central Department) in the afternoon.

Despite calls for help from residents of Saut-d'Eau, on social networks no police force intervened to protect the population in distress.

The provisional toll is heavy, these bandits would have killed at least 11 people, no less than 14 injured, several houses looted and burned and at least ten vehicles destroyed by the flames...

Marie André Ruth Thelus, the mayor of Saut d'Eau, fears that the toll will rise further because some injured are still hidden and there are deaths that have not yet been declared.

These individuals also attacked, looted and burned the Saut-d’Eau police station, abandoned by understaffed police officers...

These individuals left the scene on Saturday morning, taking their loot and several motorcycles and vehicles, without one knowing if they were going to return...

Sunday, 2 days after this deadly attack, the Departmental Directorate of the Central Police, on instructions from the High Command of the National Police, deployed agents from the Departmental Law Enforcement Unit (UDMO) at different strategic points to reassure the population, and prevent the bandits from continuing to terrorize the population ensuring that the police were ready to face any new attacks that the bandits would like to commit

The National Police asks the population to remain vigilant by providing them with adequate information that can enable them to put an end to the action of these criminals, while continuing to increase operations in the Carrefour-Feuilles area and in the department of Artibonite.
