Haiti - Insecruity : The Kenyan Parliament demands answers before authorizing the mission in Haiti
Kenya is about to deploy 1,000 members of the National Police Service (NPS) to Haiti to support the Haitian National Police (PNH) in its fight against gangs https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40134-haiti-flash-kenya-agrees-to-deploy-1-000-police-officers-in-haiti.html as part of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS), which he will lead, must before to be able to do it, to answer questions from the Kenyan Parliament to obtain its approval.

In a meeting with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, the National Assembly-Senate Joint Security Committee, which is conducting a public dialogue on the intervention, said that 7 questions posed by Parliament must be resolved satisfactorily before Kenyan troops can depart for their mission.

Among the issues raised by the joint security committee of the National Assembly and the Senate are a "well-defined insurance package for police officers" who will be deployed in Haiti," compensation for families in the event of death or injury that could put police officers considered as breadwinners unable to work and that "no taxpayer money will be spent for this mission".

The depities also want the Government to specify whether there will be a rotation of police officersor whether they will serve for a full year and, if so, after how long the ministry plans to reduce this number to 500 menin order to avoid weakening security in Kenya

The deputies also demanded a report from the multi-agency delegation of Kenya which carried out an assessment mission to Haiti in August 2023 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40315-haiti-flash-first-meetings-with-the-kenyan-delegation.html on the viability of the multinational intervention mission, affirming that they would only make their recommendations on the approval of this mission after having received the conclusions of this team.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, who has no doubt of approval by Parliament, said the first group of officers would be deployed to Haiti early next year and that they would be done in successive phases.
