Haiti - Pétion-ville : Continuing training of teachers and school principals

As part of the continuing training of agents in the educational chain, the Ministry of National Education organized a two-day training session (November 16 and 17, 2023), coordinated by the School District Office (BDS) of Pétion ville, with the support of the Training and Development Department (DFP) with a view to improving what is done for good and in real life, in the classrooms.

125 teachers and school directors from the Pétion-ville BDS participated in this training.

"The quality education that the ministry is pursuing will not be possible, among other things, without the training and continuing education of teachers and school principals," argued Inspector Jolès Sylvain, one of the coordinators of this BDS, indicating that in this perspective, the BDS of Pétion-Ville demonstrates the desire to be resolutely part of this dynamic of supervision and continuing training of teachers and heads of establishment working in the public as well as the private sector.

During the first day of training, the facilitators discussed the renovated Secondary and the Skills-based Approach. The latter is presented in the Curricular Orientation Framework (2024-2054) as "a student-centered approach" and the effective acquisition by them of the "skills" expected at the end of their training.

The idea is also developed that "Training constitutes the first lever to act on the practice of teachers and implement, as a whole, the curriculum reform. It is based on three components: initial training of future teachers, continuing training and, linked to this, direct support for teachers in their daily practice."

The first day of this training session for this group of teachers and school principals from the BDS of Pétion-ville was led by Miguel Fleurijean, Director of secondary education and inspector Dérézil Francelet.

During the second day, it is planned to deal with the modalities and purpose of the evaluation, with reference to the skills-based approach.
