Haiti - Social : Threat of strikes in the education sector

Various staff members, including teachers [172], have denounced the attitude of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) and threaten to strike if the payment of 5 months of salary arrears is not made within the shortest possible time. A strike that would force a little more than 5,000 students o stay home, less than 2 months after the new school year.

The association of teachers of municipal schools of Port-au-Prince (ASIEMP) announces a series of events, not excluding the strike, in 8 schools in the town of Port-au-Prince. Disturbance that could begin today...

The ASIEMP points out the BRH that is slow to to pay an amount of just over 65 million gourds to the town hall of Port-au-Prince, an amount that corresponds to the property tax levied on the building of the former company TELECO "This money must allow the Mayor Jean Yves Jason, to meet the obligations of the town hall towards its employees" indicates Mr. Jean Wesnel Dauphin, responsible of the ASIEMP who deplores that despite all the interventions made in high places, Charles Castel, the Governor of the BRH has not responded positively "This means simply that this country has too many chiefs, or that there is not leadership" added the responsible of the ASIEMP.

Wesnel Dauphin, indicates that the President Martelly had authorized the former Minister of Finance, so that the BRH pays to the town hall the amount due. He regretted that the parliamentarians who have voted in favor of the renewal of Mr castle to the position of Governor of the BRH, have omitted to question him on the issue of the debt of 65 million to the town hall of Port-au-Prince.
