Haiti - Security : The Bahamas are preparing to deploy troops to Haiti

The Bahamas, a CARICOM country, has confirmed its intention to participate in the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS) in Haiti approved by the United Nations Security Council https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40642-haiti-flash-the-security-council-approves-the-intervention-of-a-multinational-force-in-haiti.html .

As part of this decision, Commodore Raymond King, Chief of the Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF), said "The individuals who will participate in security operations or infantry operations are individuals who have received special training [...] there are certain criteria that we must respect when making our selections" adding that the agents have also worked with the anti-gang unit of the Royal Bahamas Police Force and we have contacted our counterparts in South America to send agents participate in "train the trainer" programs to ensure they are in a "heightened state of readiness."

"We have benefited from a number of infantry tactics and military mission training exercises conducted by the United States Special Operations Command in the North. For people who have been trained, other criteria must be met according to the UN in terms of age, years of service, medical and physical conditions…"

He reminded the media that the objective a year ago was to fight against criminal gangs in Haiti and that the initial training was therefore strictly focused on the optics of infantry in an urban environment, however, he clarified "We received warning from the Prime Minister [Phillip Daviis] that we will deploy to Haiti, but we have not yet received explicit instructions in terms of role or functions" but he indicated that the RBDF would send three platoons of 50 people in Haiti, with officers "These people were selected from all the main branches of the RBDF intelligence, administration, operations, planning, communications."
