Haiti - FLASH : Haiti is the 3rd country most dependent on its diaspora...

Transfers from the Haitian diaspora totaled $3.8 billion in 2023, down slightly by 1.2% compared to the previous year, or a little less than 20% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) according to news calculation methods, but the country’s primary source of currency.

However, in 2023, these transfers from the diaspora were, for comparison, 4 times higher than that of Haitian exports and almost 100 times higher than the amounts received in Haiti through foreign direct investments.

If these billions do not resolve the country's crisis, they relieve households, they guarantee all or part of the purchasing power of almost half of the households in Haiti to feed themselves, pay the rent, transport and school of the children and adolescents which has little impact on economic growth and employment in the country...

Haiti is one of the countries in the world most dependent on remittances from its diaspora and the 3rd country in Latin America and the Caribbean after El Salvador and Honduras (according to the World Bank 2022). Negative signs of an economy in decline, incapable of generating wealth and income for its citizens on its own...
