Haiti - Football : D-Day, what are our Grenadière U-17s dreaming of ?
Wednesday January 31, 2024, on the eve of playing their first match of the CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship, qualifier for the 2024 World Cup in the category, Thursday February 1, 2024 against the "Ticas" of Costa Rica (1:00 p.m.), the coach Marc Ogé during an exclusive interview with FIFA says he wants to make the Haitian flag shine internationally.

While recalling that the Haitian U-17 women's Grenadières have never participated in the World Cup in this category, he emphasizes that they have dreams.

"They dream of doing better than Corventina, They dream of qualifying for the World Cup, of going as far as possible, of making a final, or even of winning a World Cup. Yes, they have these dreams."

"Although the Grenadières today grant themselves the right to dream and see things big, this is not always a foregone conclusion. In certain regions of Haiti, parents do not know what women's football is," Marc Ogé explained to FIFA. "We need to do a sort of propaganda for women's football in remote areas so that parents understand. exactly why their daughters must participate in the development of women's sport in the country [...] However, in Haiti, if a girl plays football, it can lead to really interesting results like Corventina, like [Sherly] Jeudy and others," rejoices Ogé who believes that the exploits of Melchie Dumornay, Nérilia Mondesir and even Kerly Theus at the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand have somewhat "transcended mentalities".

Asked which Grenadières to follow closely during the continental competition Ogé replies "We have a lot of them! We will have to watch Pierreline Nazon for example, and Lourdjina Étienne. Aslie [Laguerre] too, and then Nehemiah Sainvilus. These girls are very sharp. They are forwards who are really technical, who have the ability to play offensively, with good dribbling and really powerful shots. These girls are going to give a lot to the World Cup (sic)."

"If we have the mental, the physical, the individuality and the collective, the way the opponent plays does not concern us [...] We play to win. We developed this mentality: Haiti must not lose, Haiti must remain standing [...] Our young people suffer a lot and football can help us. Football gives us visibility, the possibility of making Haiti speak well throughout the world, so I ask the girls to seize this opportunity and not give up."

"Grenadye alaso sa ki mouri zafè yayo !" Ogé concluded.
