Haiti - FLASH : 2nd day of demonstrations, update on the situation in the country
In an explosive context, supported by calls for armed insurrection and civil disobedience, anti-Government demonstrations demanding the departure of Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry, multiplied in the country on the eve of February 7 with uncertain consequences . The demonstrators criticized the behavior of the police officers who, according to them, allowed themselves to be "instrumentalized by politicians".

Tuesday, February 6 at the beginning of the afternoon, the former elected senator and former rebel leader Guy Philippe was seen in Pétion-ville shaking the hands of a few curious people on Saint-Pierre Square, escorted by his bodyguards. A presence that caused enthusiasm in some and panic in others. Shortly after his visit to Pétion-ville on the airwaves of a radio station in the capital, he declared "Tomorrow, I will be in the street with my people" adding that he would be surrounded by security forces, affirming "The fight is not than the beginning."

Jean Charles Moïse, leader of the Radical Party "Pitit Dessalin" was at the head of a demonstration which took place along the Delmas highway and the streets of Pétion-ville where a gas station shop was looted by demonstrators...

In Cap-Haitien, demonstrators threw stones and bottles against the police who used tear gas to disperse these aggressive individuals and restore public order... Most businesses, banks and institutions were closed as many cities in Haiti plagued by anti-government demonstrations. Bursts of automatic weapons were reported

In Ounaminthe in the evening, armed individuals launched an attack against the police station, agents from the Intervention Brigade came to support the police. An attacker was fatally injured in the exchange of fire. Furthermore, men wearing balaclavas vandalized the Ouanaminthe town hall and set fire to municipal vehicles.

In Gonaïves all activities were paralyzed while thousands of people took to the streets to demand the departure of Prime Minister a.i Henry, accompanied by a sound truck and a rara band. The customs offices, those of the Vehicle Insurance Against Third Parties (OAVCT) and the Northern section of the Peace Court were ransacked and looted by unidentified individuals... Agents of the Departmental Law Enforcement Unit (UDMO) and the Intervention Brigade tried to contain the excesses. Individuals carrying assault rifles were noticed in the crowd of demonstrators.

Tuesday February 6, 2024, demonstrators partially set fire to the premises of Hinche Town Hall. The offices of Dinepa and EDH were also attacked. The situation was tense in other towns on the central plateau such as Mirebalais and Belladère where there were numerous demonstrators... At least one gunshot wound was reported...
