Yvette Bonny, Canadian of Haitian origin, born in Haiti in 1938, emigrated to Canada in 1962, doctor specializing in pediatrics was one of the first black female doctors to practice in Quebec and the first Quebec practitioner of Haitian origin to have carried out in April 1980, a bone marrow transplant in Quebec and Eastern Canada on a child. This feat paved the way in the treatment of pediatric conditions such as leukemia and sickle cell anemia. For nearly 20 years, Dr. Yvette Bonnyr directed the pediatric bone marrow transplantation unit at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital in Montreal.
