Haiti - FLASH : The metropolitan area under attacks
Thursday February 29, 2024, the capital and the metropolitan area were the subject of coordinated gang attacks. All activities were paralyzed, schools, private businesses, businesses and public institutions closed their doors. Shootings were heard throughout the capital and its surroundings, the provisional human toll was very heavy and the damage significant.

In a panic wind, thousands of people tried to return to their homes and others fled their neighborhoods in search of safer areas amid the confusion and chaos.

Barricades were reported in different neighborhoods in the metropolitan area of the capital, Port-au-Prince, Delmas 6 was completely blocked.

The Guy Malary terminal in Port-au-Prince was machine-gunned, a bullet impact was noted on a seat in the arrival hall of the terminal and bullet impacts were visible on several bay windows of the building some of which were broken against a backdrop of widespread panic.

Several local and international flights have been canceled at the Guy Malary terminal.

The road to the international airport and the outlying neighborhoods were the scene of violent and bloody clashes between the police and armed gangs, the results of which are still unknown...

At Toussaint Louverture International Airport, two planes parked on the airport tarmac were allegedly hit by projectiles according to reported testimonies. Staff members and travelers took cover to avoid falling victim to stray bullets.

The bandits ransacked, looted and set fire to the sub-police station as well as an armored vehicle located there

Armed individuals attacked the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine of the State University of Haiti (UEH) in Damien, which they vandalized and looted, a student was shot in the ear

Members of the "Kraze Barye" gang led by Vitel'Homme Innocent attacked the premises of the Police Academy around 2 a.m. by destroying part of the fence wall giving access to the Academy's shooting range with heavy machinery. The PNH intervened with an armored vehicle to repel the attackers.
