Haiti - USA : Call from Secretary Blinken to PM a.i. Ariel Henry
State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller declared "Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke with Haitian Prime Minister Dr. Ariel Henry on March 7 to discuss the ongoing political, security, and humanitarian crisis in Haiti. For more than a year, the United States has encouraged Prime Minister Henry and other key stakeholders in Haiti to reach a compromise that will end the ongoing political stalemate. In the past week, the political crisis in Haiti, combined with escalating violence and civil unrest, has created an untenable situation which threatens the country’s citizens and security.

In his conversation with Prime Minister Henry, Secretary Blinken expressed support for a proposal developed in partnership with CARICOM and Haitian stakeholders to expedite a political transition through the creation of a broad-based, independent presidential college to steer the country toward the deployment of a Multinational Security Support mission and free and fair elections. The Secretary urged Henry to support this proposal in the interest of restoring peace and stability to Haiti so the Haitian people can resume their daily lives free from violence and despair."

Let's also remember that the creation of the independent and broad-based presidential college mentioned requires a consensus and CARICOM confirmed after the latest interviews with stakeholders that nothing had changed; political actors continued to stick to their position...

Also at the end of the 46th ordinary meeting of Caricom, the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Phillip Davis at a press conference, recalled that Prime Minister Ariel Henry during his closing speech at the summit, committed to elections before August 31, 2025 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-41788-haiti-flash-pm-henry-is-committed-to-holding-elections-in-haiti-before-august-31-2025.html . Should be notef that if the deadline for a new government elected before August 2025 has provoked strong reactions (in the opposition), the plan proposed by "Barbecue" and Moïse Jean Charles evokes a transition of 18 months before the establishment of a new Government a similar delay but which does not seem to bother when it comes from the opposition...
