Haiti - FLASH : Acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry resigns (video) 12/03/2024 05:34:26
Ariel Henry confirmed her resignation by telephone to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who was in Jamaica. Mohamed Irfaan Ali said he was happy to announce "[...] a transitional governance agreement paving the way for a peaceful transition of power, continuity of governance, a short-term security action plan and free and fair elections [...]" Later in the evening, Ariel Henry, after 10 days of silence, in a pre-recorded message announced to the population his departure and that of his Government. Excerpts from the PM's resignation speec h: "[...] The government that I lead cannot remain insensitive to this situation. There is no sacrifice too great for our country Haiti, the Government that I lead, after the Council of Ministers this evening agreed to set up a presidential transition council, the members of this council will be chosen after an agreement between the different sectors of national life. The Government that I lead will withdraw immediately after the installation of this Council.
