Haiti - FLASH : Update on the situation in Haiti 27/03/2024 07:14:11 At least 5 pharmacies and clinics near the State University Hospital were looted and burned. The Frère Nau School, on Steet du Center, was set on fire, businesses and dozens of private homes were looted and sometimes set on fire, several dozen cars were vandalized and set on fire. Heavily armed individuals vandalized the National School of Arts, all the materials were taken away. In the provinces, towns escape the murderous and destructive fury of direct gangs but not its consequences... Jérémie : Everything was operating as usual, banks, schools and public institutions opened their doors. Several gas stations remained closed due to lack of fuel. On the black market prices are soaring… Les Cayes : Everything was operating cautiously, banks and transfer houses are limiting the amount of transactions, many small traders remain closed or have ceased their activities. The fuel shortage is felt... Saint-Marc : Due to restocking difficulties, businesses are no longer able to meet all customer needs. Due to lack of funds, banks refuse all transactions that they consider too large. Fuel at the pumps is rare, the black market sells the precious liquid on the sidewalks at double the official price. Jacmel : Public and private schools, universities, banks, public markets, intermunicipal public transport were operating normally. However, several stores are almost out of stock. Supplying fuel to the few service stations still open is very difficult. North-East : The banks worked part-time. Schools and universities were generally functioning.
