Haiti - Case Bélizaire : First hearings of the Senate Commission, scheduled for today
The Senator François Anick Joseph (OPL), Secretary-rapporteur of the of the Senate Commission, composed of five members (the Senators : John Joël Joseph, Jean William Jeanty, Andrys Riché, Dieuseul Deras Simon and François Anick Joseph) responsible for identifying and determining the responsibilities of those involved in the arrest of Deputy Bélizaire, has indicated that the Commission is at work and that a list of 19 personalities, including, among others, members of the legislature, was made and that the hearings, are expected to begin this Wednesday.

He estimates that the Commission should begin to analyze the data collected in view of drafting of its report, at the beginning of next week. However, this report, [lack of sufficient time] might not be ready for the Interpellation session on 15 November.

In this case, Jean Rodolphe Joazile, the President of the Senate declared that the report was not essential to the holding of the interpellation session (!) What seems to confirm the statements of Senator Jean William Jeanty, President of the Commission, that explains that the latter would "work in peace, in order to enable the Assembly to decide based on the facts, despite the comments made about how the Senate does its job," stressing that the establishment of this Commission, "allows the Senate to avoid adopting measures in a hasty manner [...] The culprits will be punished once they are identified," adding that "it is to the Assembly of Senators to assume then, their responsibilities by going to the end of this case."

For his part, the Deputy Sinal Bertrand indicated that all authorities whose involvement in the unconstitutional arrest of his colleague Bélizaire, is proven, will have to pay for their actions. Affirming the lower house will have [in January 2012] a majority of more than 50 deputies to return the guilty...

Note that the Deputy Arnel Bélizaire failed to appear to the Office of the investigating judge Tuesday, following the summons of the Judge Bernard Saint-Vil, in charge of the instruction of the investigation. A Deputy that would be, according to various sources, in Dominican Republic, has been represented by his lawyer...
