Rape of a Haitian minor in the DR

The Haitian chancellery condemns the rape of a 14-year-old Haitian girl by an alleged Dominican agent of the Directorate General of Migration (DGM) which occurred in Punta Cana, and demands that justice be done. Dominican President Luis Abinader described this rape as a "criminal act" and an "unspeakable abuse", adding that the full weight of the law will be applied to the person identified as responsible. Venancio Alcántara, the Director General of Immigration, declared "We have provided the Higüey Public Prosecutor's Office with the names of all the immigration people who interacted in this migration control intervention. An investigation is underway. We still cannot say with certainty at the moment whether it is an immigration officer or whether it is another person."
