Wednesday on the sidelines of a meeting at the ranch of Croix-des-Bouquets with René Jean Roosevelt, the Minister of Youth, Sports and Civic Action, Michaëlle Jean, the UNESCO Special Envoy for Haiti declared :

"...The UNESCO funds for the teacher training, exists thanks to a contribution from the Government of Canada. UNESCO [...] is really committed to supporting the haitian plan for education. It is not only infrastructure, but also the content, work on the curriculum, work on teacher training because it is necessary to have a education of quality. So the strategy and policies of the Haitian state must be strengthened [...]

...the youth represents a vital and indispensable force in Haiti, it needs to feel included in the whole strategy of reconstruction, of refoundation of the country. It is necessary to salute its initiatives, it is necessary to salute its actions, it is necessary to give it spaces of opportunities, areas of development, that it feels that it's a partner fully implied.

All ministries need to be concerned, ie both the health, education, the plan, environment, public safety, the sports... We must feel a mix of energy, we must feel a synergy and in dealing with youth, we can do that, and create a kind of dynamic and constructive feeling in Haiti..."
