Finer reiterated the United States' unwavering support for the Haitian people, who have suffered for too long at the hands of gangs, with nearly 5 million people now in need of emergency food assistance.
Finer and Conille discussed the initial deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS), its operation, its needs for reinforcement and U.S. support. The elections in Haiti were also discussed.
Finer reaffirmed U.S. support for integrating strong accountability and oversight mechanisms into the mission. The two men pledged to continue close cooperation to support improved security, economic growth and democratic governance in Haiti.
