Haiti - Economy : The Diaspora, the first target market for the Minister of Tourism

This week on the sidelines of the second Business Forum Quebec-Haiti, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the the Haitian Minister of Tourism, explained that the diaspora (U.S., Canada, France) is the market targeted for the first year, as part of tourism development in Haiti "In the short term, it is clear that our primary market is the Haitian diaspora. It is this type of tourism, that we can develop for the moment in Haiti [...] we will implement a tourist package, sites will be developed accordingly [...] I will work with existing hotels. I propose to provide them, a technical support, to help to the standardization of the product, because for me, the diaspora must have a service of quality" stressing the need to identify various tourism products and tours around the hotels, to facilitate access and movement of tourists.

She also informed that discussions were ongoing with the travel agencies who work with clients of the diaspora and that their collaborations were crucial, adding that the Haitian Government for its part, intended to reorganize and modernize several regional airports to allow the landing of aircraft of 110 passengers.

For the Minister, there is no doubt that embassies and consulates will play an important role in the tourist development in Haiti, for example, by establishing a proactive culture and tourism section.
