Haiti - FLASH : New armored vehicles arrive in Haiti
Friday, August 23, 2024, the Haitian National Police (PNH) received Toyota armored military vehicles ordered in October 2023 by the Government of Ariel Henry from the United Arab Emirates. In addition, the Conille Government placed orders for other equipment and ammunition for the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Haitian Armed Forces.

Additionally, as part of the U.S. assistance, U.S. Army Southern Command announced in a statement that it began delivering on Friday, August 23, 2024, by U.S. Air Force C-17 Cargo aircraft to Toussaint Louverture International Airport for the Kenyan-led Mission the first of 24 additional MaxxPro MRAP Mine Resistant Ambush Protected armored vehicles, which will be in addition to the existing fleet of 10 MaxxPros already provided to the Mission by the United States and which are being used to support HNP operations in areas affected by widespread gang violence.

Department of Defense-funded contractors will install the turrets on the armored vehicles [...]" the statement said. These turrets requested by the Kenyan Command will improve the effectiveness and combat capability of these armored vehicles during joint operations conducted by the PNH against armed gangs.

As a reminder, the delivery of these MaxxPro MRAPs follows the signing by President Joe Biden of a presidential withdrawal authorization in April 2024 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-42106-haiti-flash-biden-releases-60-million-usd-for-the-mission-led-by-kenya.html , paving the way for the transfer of U.S. federal resources to countries contributing personnel to the security support mission in Haiti. As part of this drawdown, the Department of Defense (DOD) and other interagency partners are providing the equipment, supplies, parts, and services needed to support the mission's sustainment and operations in Haiti, including repairs and maintenance of the vehicle fleet.

Regarding the request for the supply of helicopters for the Mission in Haiti, negotiations with partners are progressing slowly…
