False allegations "Dangerous" for Haitian Immigrants
"The misrepresentation of Haitian immigrants is a cause for concern. Recent accusations that Haitians in Springfield consume domestic animals and local wildlife are not only unfounded but also unacceptable. This rhetoric unfairly targets a community that has consistently contributed significantly to American society through its hard work. These narratives risk dividing and endangering already vulnerable communities. It is imperative that we promote the unity, mutual respect, and historic partnership between the United States and Haiti," said Leslie Voltaire, Member of the Presidential Transition Council of the Republic of Haiti.

According to the White House, "These rumors about pets in Springfield began going viral over the past weekend, based in part on comments from residents during public hearings and a fourth-hand story posted in a Facebook group devoted to crime. By Monday, they had become a talking point adopted by supporters of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, adding new vitriol to an election race where immigration was already a hot topic."

Since the arrival of the first MSS contingent in Port-au-Prince in June, progress has been made. We are keenly aware of what needs to be done to address the challenges facing Haiti and the enormous amount of work that lies ahead. We will continue to work with our Haitian partners and the international community to implement Haitian-led solutions to bring security to the Haitian people." As Secretary of State Blinken said during his visit on September 5, "it is the Haitian people and not the gangs who will write the future of the country."
