Haiti - Politic : Haitian soldiers will be trained in Mexico

The Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of Mexico Cisneros Chávez, José de Jesús, accompanied by his deputy Joanna Gomez Rodriguez, paid a courtesy visit to Commander Godfrey Otunge of the Multinational Security Support Mission, Henry Kevron the Deputy Lieutenant Commander for the Jamaican forces of the Mission, was also present to welcome the diplomats.

Otunge gave an update on the mission and shared the successes and challenges he has encountered since the arrival of the first Kenyan delegation in Haiti in June 2024. Otunge stressed the need for air support for the mission which will apparently be used for the insertion of police officers and the evacuation of the wounded. He also stressed the need to finance the creation of Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), essential to maintain control of the pacified areas. He called on the international community, particularly foreign Embassies in Haiti, to support and equip the Haitian National Police (PNH), which plays a central role in this mission.

In his interventions during the meeting, Ambassador Cisneros Chávez praised the efforts and achievements of the Mission, and expressed optimism that the Mission would succeed with adequate and regular funding from the Trust Fund. He believes that there will likely be a chain reaction after the extension of the Mission’s mandate, where more contributing countries will respond positively.

Cisneros Chávez indicated that as part of Mexico’s efforts to support the fight against gangs, his Government will train Haitian military personnel in Mexico in the coming months.
