![]() Haiti - FLASH: 7,217 Haitians deported and repatriated to Haiti in 4 days by the Dominican Republic 08/10/2024 09:52:19
In just four days, the Directorate General of Migration (DGM) has already returned to Haiti 7,217 Haitians in an irregular situation since the start of the mass ban day on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024 until Sunday 6. The DGM specified that it had deported 5,144 Haitians during these 4 days and repatriated 2,073 others during the same period. Difference between deported and repatriated : The migrant who is deported has been arrested during a migration control on Dominican territory and subjected to a purification process (verification of his immigration status in the country) in a reception center by the immigration authorities, who take his biometric data (fingerprints) and various other information. Repatriated migrants (or repressed) are those who have been detained in an irregular migratory situation at the border and who are returned directly to their country. No biometric data or identification is recorded on these people. The figures according to the DGM data (deported and repatriated). Thursday, October 3 : 1,243 Haitians; Friday, October 4 : 1,862 Haitians; Saturday, October 5 : 2,203 Haitians; Sunday, October 6 : 1,909 Haitians. Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, Director General of Immigration, explained that from October 1st to 6, 2024, 9,117 Haitians in an irregular situation were deported and repatriated, of which 7,217 correspond to the large-scale repatriation period.
