Haiti - Security : Panama plans to send a security contingent to Haiti 10/11/2024 08:54:55 "We talked about the responsibility that Panama has, within the framework of the UN, to send forces linked to maintaining security in Haiti," said Panamanian Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha, stressing that the Central American country plans to provide a security contingent to support Haiti. When the time comes, the population will be informed of the manner and quantity of security equipment and men that will be sent to Haiti, Martínez-Acha said, adding "This is a commitment that we have as a member of the Security Council (as of January 1st, non-permanent member) and another example that Panama is a reliable partner and that the community must recognize it," he added. For his part, Dominican Chancellor Roberto Álvarez, deplored that until now, Haiti has not received the necessary financial support so that all the forces that were promised can be deployed in Haiti "The situation is complex due to logistics and financing. In any case, the Haitian people need support so that they can live in Peace, and so that the region can also have that Peace and security that, in terms of migration, does not currently exist." In addition to the Ministers of Foreign Affairs Martínez-Acha and Roberto Álvarez, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs Arnoldo André Tinoco (Costa Rica) and Gabriela Sommerfeld, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of Ecuador, participated in this VII Meeting. The four ministers signed a joint statement in which they expressed their support for the Transitional Presidential Council and Prime Minister Garry Conille, as well as for the Multinational Mission for Security Support in Haiti (MMSS), led by Kenya and which requires greater financial support from the international community.
