![]() Haiti - Nippes : Two new irrigation systems in Charlier and O’Rouck 24/11/2024 08:47:17
These actions aim to stimulate agricultural production in the country and reduce the problem of access to water that the sector has been facing for many years. The installation of these hydro-agricultural infrastructures specifically in the localities of 'O’Rouck, and Charlier, aims to strengthen the resilience of the population. More than 3,000 linear meters (ml) of canal are concerned, or 1,635 ml at the level of the irrigated perimeter of O’Rouck and 134 ml at the level of the irrigated perimeter Charlier. These hydro-agricultural works make it possible to irrigate more than 150 ha of land corresponding to approximately 400 planters grouped within two irrigator associations, "Asosyasyon irigan perimèt Katye Chalye" (AIPKC) and the Association d’irrigant O’Rouck commonly called (AIO). ![]() With the completion of these two irrigation systems, a glimmer of hope shines for the populations, given that irrigation plays a major role in agricultural production and food security. Pastor Amos Pierre, President of the O'Rouck Irrigator Association, affirms that these canal systems will contribute significantly to improving the living conditions of planters in the Nippes department. Pastor Amos Pierre, who is also a farmer, emphasizes that the O'Rouck area has considerable agricultural potential, renowned for its production of rice (Oryza sativa L.), black beans and market gardening. "These implemented irrigation systems will increase agricultural production and offer farmers the opportunity to generate more income." The Resilient Productive Territories project continues to intensify its actions with the aim of increasing the agricultural area and improving the living conditions of farmers in the Nippes region, particularly in the municipalities of Anse-à-Veau, Paillant and Petite-Rivière-de-Nippes through agricultural incentives, subsidies with counterparts and infrastructure.
