Haiti - Politic : Ralph Youri Chevry back at the head of Port-au-Prince

During the Council of Ministers of December 18, 2024, meeting in regular session under the Presidency of Leslie Voltaire, President pro tempore of the Transitional Council assisted by the Prime Minister, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, in order to guarantee the proper functioning of the municipalities of Port-au-Prince, Pétion-ville and Tabarre, it was decided to provide them with Municipal Commissions responsible for managing their interests until the next elections. Ralph Youri Chevry, the former Mayor of Port-au-Prince (June 2016–2020) was appointed President of the Interim Executive Council of Port-au-Prince until the next elections.

On Tuesday, December 24, after being sworn in at the Peace Court of the Southern Section, Ralph Youri Chevry officially took office as President of the Interim Executive Council of Port-au-Prince during a ceremony held at the Ministry of the Interior.

In his speech, Chevry expressed his desire to address the major challenges facing the capital. "Taking on this responsibility means putting oneself entirely at the service of the population and the public service."

Faced with the challenges of insecurity, the humanitarian crisis and unsanitary conditions, the new Acting President of the Executive Council announced three major priorities:

1 - Restore security in the commune :

A Communal Security Council will be created to coordinate efforts with the Haitian National Police (PNH) and residents, with the aim of restoring a climate of peace and stability.

2 - Responding to the humanitarian crisis :

The mobilization of available resources will be at the heart of the Council's actions to meet the urgent needs of displaced populations.

3 - Improving the cleanliness of the municipality :

Waste management will be strengthened in order to combat the chronic insalubrity of Port-au-Prince.

During his speech, Chevry also responded to the accusations made against him: "Mwen p ap fè bak!" https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-32976-haiti-flash-the-former-mayor-of-port-au-prince-wanted-by-the-pnh.html , he firmly declared, reaffirming his commitment to transparency, social justice and accountability.

In closing his speech, he wanted to reassure the people of Port-au-Prince : "Rest assured that we will constantly listen to you and be at your side to improve your daily lives."
