Haiti - FLASH : Belize hesitates to send more soldiers to Haiti

The Government of Belize, which has deployed only a vanguard of 2 soldiers to Haiti, out of an initially planned contingent of 51 men, who have joined the Mission to Support the Haitian National Police (PNH) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43195-haiti-security-the-advance-guard-of-jamaica-and-belize-has-arrived-video.html , is hesitant about whether it will deploy more soldiers to Haiti.

This week, the Cabinet was briefed on the readiness of Belize’s troops to determine whether more soldiers will be deployed. Last year, 31 Belize Defence Force soldiers and 20 Coast Guard sailors were trained in Jamaica by members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-42149-haiti-canada-training-of-the-multinational-force-in-haiti-continues-in-jamaica.html

Foreign Affairs Minister Francis Fonseca said the training will continue but deployment remains uncertain "We got a briefing in cabinet from the team, the Ministry of National Defense and Border Security team on this issue. So I think there are a few outstanding issues that have to be resolved in terms of ensuring that our soldiers are ready. They have been training. So I think around the end of the month they will do another assessment around the end of January they’ll do another assessment of where they are and then they will report back to cabinet and then we’ll be able to make a more definitive decision about when, if and when they will be deployed."

After Barbados which suspended its decision to send troops to Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-44023-haiti-flash-barbados-suspends-its-decision-to-send-troops-to-haiti.html Belize is the 2nd country to hesitate on sending troops to Haiti.
