Haiti - Economy : Official inauguration of the Port of Saint Louis du Sud (video) 18/01/2025 08:37:46
In his speech for the occasion, Leslie Voltaire declared that this was a great victory in the fight for the development of the South. He praised the courage and perseverance of all those who participated in the great work of this inauguration and took the opportunity to announce that the South Port represents the beginning of many other projects that will be carried out in the ongoing struggle for decentralization in Haiti. "When we will put an end to gang activities and the Martissant road is reopened, this Port will also become a stage to serve the metropolitan area. It is a symbol of rebirth and resilience for our Nation," he said. Hailed by civil society organizations, the Southern Chamber of Commerce and the local committee of the Symposium, the Port of Saint Luis is not limited to a simple logistics infrastructure. It embodies a collective ambition, that of strengthening the economic autonomy of the Southern Peninsula while integrating the region into national priorities, according to the Prime Minister's Office. The project aims to stimulate the local economy through easier access to markets for producers and traders in the region, attract private investment in an area with high economic potential, create job opportunities, contribute to the stabilization and resilience of the region, in response to the urgent challenges facing the populations. Inauguration ceremony of the Port of Saint-Louis du Sud : During the ceremony, the protocol formalizing the operation of the port was signed by local authorities and Jocelin Villier. With this agreement, the Port of Saint-Louis du Sud is now able to receive goods not only from any point in Haitian territory (cabotage), but also from abroad. The Port will also be able to sign contracts with partners for solid bulk (fertilizers, cement, sand, etc., or food products such as : cereals, raw sugar, livestock feed, etc...), liquid bulk (petroleum products, gas, chemical and food products, etc...) and other activities.
