![]() Haiti - Port of Saint-Louis : A strategic infrastructure for the development of the Great South 17/01/2025 09:01:39
An agreement will be signed for the management of activities. The Port of Saint-Louis du Sud will then be able to receive goods not only from any point in Haitian territory (cabotage), but also from abroad. The Port will also be able to sign contracts with partners for solid bulk (fertilizers, cement, sand, etc..., or food products such as cereals, raw sugar, livestock feed, etc...), liquid bulk (oil and petroleum products, gas, chemicals and food products, etc...) and other activities. This strategic initiative is part of the Government's efforts to address the socio-economic and security challenges affecting the country, while creating the conditions for sustainable development for the Grand Sud region. Hailed by Civil Society organizations, the Chamber of Commerce of the South and the Local Symposium Committee, the Port of Saint-Louis du Sud is not limited to a simple logistics infrastructure. It embodies a collective ambition, that of strengthening the economic autonomy of the Southern Peninsula while integrating the region into national priorities. The Port of Saint-Louis du Sud aims to : - Stimulate the local economy by facilitating access to markets for producers and traders in the region; - Attract private investment in an area with high economic potential; - Create employment opportunities and improve the living conditions of local communities; - Contribute to the stabilization and resilience of the region, in response to the urgent challenges faced by the populations. The Port of Saint-Louis du Sud represents a major step forward in the materialization of an inclusive vision of economic and social progress. With this in mind, the Government invites public institutions, the private sector and Civil Society to unite to maximize the benefits of this Port and make it a lever for sustainable growth. Let's recall that the "Cygnus Madeira" coming from Colombia, was the first merchant ship to dock at the Port of Saint-Louis du Sud, on November 1st, 2023 with approximately 82,000 bags of cement which were prohibited from landing https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40893-haiti-port-of-saint-louis-du-sud-strange-customs-ban-on-the-unloading-of-82-000-bags-of-cement.html before finally being authorized a week later https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40922-haiti-port-of-saint-louis-du-sud-the-ship-cygnus-finally-authorized-to-unload-its-goods.html See also : https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40922-haiti-port-of-saint-louis-du-sud-the-ship-cygnus-finally-authorized-to-unload-its-goods.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40893-haiti-port-of-saint-louis-du-sud-strange-customs-ban-on-the-unloading-of-82-000-bags-of-cement.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12372-haiti-economy-project-of-port-of-saint-louis.html HL/ S/ HaitiLibre
