Haiti - Politic : Martelly is convinced and has made announcements
The President of the Republic, Michel Martelly, accompanied by several Ministers and of the Senators Jocelerme Privert and Wencesclass Lambert, returned to the country, this Sunday, Dec. 4, after his successful participation at the first Summit of Heads of State of Latin America and the Caribbean (CELAC) which was held in Venezuela on December 2 and 3.

Apart from Venezuela, Haiti was the country of honor at this forum. Satisfied, the Head of State, in a press conference held at the Diplomatic Room of the Toussaint Louverture Airport, thanked his counterpart Hugo Chávez and renewed the gratitude of the Haitian people to the Venezuelan President whose the country supports considerably haiti particularly through the program Petrocaribe. The President Martelly also expressed his optimism, and is convinced about the benefits that will certainly lead this first summit.

He informed that the 33 countries participating in this meeting passed a resolution to contribute formally and widely in the reconstruction of Haiti.

For example :

  • Ecuador promised to intervene in Haiti in several areas including security.
  • Chile is ready to build ten schools.
  • Colombia also manifested its desire to support the Haitian government in the areas of safety and education. Colombian authorities for this purpose will make an exploratory visit to the country in mid-January 2012.
  • For its part, Panama, who apologized for mistreatment of Haitian merchants, promises to reduce the costs to obtain a visa for the Panama, which are currently estimated at $ 1,000.

Other important announcements made ​​by the President of the Republic :

  • An important delegation of investors from the region will pay a visit exploration in the country next Tuesday.
  • Construction works of the hydroelectric plant (Artibonite 4C) will soon be relaunched with the help of Brazil, which has more than $40 million for that.
  • The program "Aba grangou" will start in January with 100,000 mothers of families vulnerable to support at the beginning. The Government will benefit from technical assistance from Ecuador and of CEPAL as part of the program.
  • The Haitian government plans to create the "International Day of Solidarity of the Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean." The first celebration is scheduled for March 12, 2013 in Jacmel where will have to travel several Heads of State and Government of Latin America and of Caribbean. Major infrastructure will be established for this purpose.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs, Laurent Lamothe, who also took the opportunity, to make the promotion of Haiti in Venezuela, indicated that the CELAC, political body and multilateral, is an important market of 600 million people. The Chancellor has given a guarantee concerning the follow-up that the Government will have to ensure after the successful meetings that took place during the summit. he President Martelly, who is convinced that the opportunities exist calling on all sectors to work together in peace to start the year 2012 in beauty.

The President of the Republic recognizes that : the illiteracy rate is too high in the country, environmental issues are crucial with a cover of only 2%, the poverty is at a stage very critical with 70% of the population living with about $2 per day. "So I took the commitment to change all that... It is necessary to improve the lives of the Haitian people," affirmed the Head of State, determined.
