Haiti - Politic : Last day of President Martelly in Caracas (speech) 04/12/2011 09:46:41 For his part, Roberto Henriquez Martinelli, the Panamanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, has offered a technical assistance for the construction of a new container port in Port-au-Prince. The President Michel Martelly, in his speech delivered Saturday, has been grateful to President Hugo Chavez for the assistance to Haiti, particularly mentioning the Petro-Caribe agreement. He also thanked friendly countries for the vote of the resolution for the reconstruction of Haiti and stressed the commitment of his team to implement a good governance and reminded once again, that Haiti is open to foreign investors. Extracts from the speech of President Martelly : "[...] first, Mr. President the Haitian people asked me to greet you and wish you a prompt recovery, as said my predecessors we know you as a fighter we are sure that you will, once again win this battle and you are in our prayers. I take this opportunity to thank you for your support to Haiti [...] through the assistance Petrocaribe, Petrocaribe program allows us to address those in the greatest misery and since that's my struggle I said thank you for giving me this opportunity. I also say thanks you to President Raúl Castro for his words of praise and his commitment to the reconstruction of Haiti. To return to the theme of the day I would say simply what better way to unite to fight the evils that we have in common, evils such as hunger, misery, poverty, the right to education, right to health. I wonder even if we are not late, our ancestors in the past they fought to make us what we are today and when they had to win they are mit together, to the point where could ask if this was not a complicity, a complicity between Dessalines, Pétion, Miranda, Bolívar, José Marti a complicity that has allowed us to win [...] Today, [...] it is by putting us together we can win these battles [...] Haiti lives hours of hopes, today through the Petrocaribe program we are building social housing, about 3,400. We also have a program, the 'Bolsa Familia' that we are establishing. [Aba Grangou] Haiti has decided to break with its past of bad governance, and I already beginning to take steps to help the most vulnerable, over 70% of the population lives only two dollars a day, and this must change, and to change my Government work day and night to relieve the misery infrahuman and the extreme poverty [...] Social assistance which I speak is called 'Aba grangou' I could bring in Spanish 'No mas amber' thanks to the funds Petrocaribe and we will provide direct assistance to 100,000 mothers with their children to school living in the most terrible poverty. The earthquake destroyed 4.268 schools in this area we have much to do, but we have already set up a program for children six to twelve years [...] is the first time in Haiti's history that a government puts as much school children to school. Our goal is to put all children at school, school bus and now free thanks to an initiative of the government [...] The earthquake destroyed 4.268 schools in this area we have much to do, but we have already set up a program for children six to twelve years and through a surcharge on telephone calls now we pay the school for 903.000 school children, 903.000 school children is the first time in Haiti's history that a government puts as much school children to school. Our goal is to put all children at school, school bus and now free thanks to an initiative of the government a 229 buses are available to children attending school. This regrouping [CELAC] offers hope, solidarity, brotherhood, sincerity, respect are the predominant feature in this South-South cooperation, including the Caribbean. In Cuba I retained a comment that touched me when a senior member of government has expressed in these terms 'we do not give what we have in surplus, but we share what we have'. Today Haiti has some delay, yesterday we were leaders, we changed the course of humanity, but who knows where tomorrow we will be only through solidarity, fraternity can we ensure our tomorrows. I therefore welcome the proposal of integration, complementarity between us."
