![]() Haiti - FLASH : Kenya to deploy all-female SWAT team to Haiti 21/01/2025 08:57:21
Kenyan Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen, in a statement, said that in the upcoming deployments [200 before the end of the month and 200 in February], Kenya will make history by sending a security team entirely composed and led by women. "As part of our unwavering commitment to the people of Haiti, Kenya will continue to deploy additional officers from various specialized units, including the General Service Unit (GSU), the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), and the all-female Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), to reinforce security efforts and ensure sustained progress in restoring order." The SWAT team aka "The Lionesses" is comprised of all elite women who have undergone rigorous training and education. They are trained to handle high-risk situations that require specialized skills. In addition, this SWAT team is also trained to handle counter-terrorism operations, hostage rescues, and armed confrontations. In Kenya, the SWAT "Lionesses" were first deployed on the streets of Nairobi in 2012, where they received mixed reactions from Kenyans as it was the first team of its kind. S/ HaitiLibre
