Haiti - Social : 3 new projects in favor of women and children in Haiti

The Delegation of the European Union in Haiti commemorates this Wednesday, December 7 the Hotel Karibe Convention Center, the International Day of Human Rights. In this context 3 new projects for the promotion of rights of children and women selected during a call for proposals will be launched. During this celebration the issues of the education of children "overage", of the detention of minors in prison and access to justice for women victims of sexual violence will be discussed by experts in the field working effectively in these areas.

The three new projects that are launched on the occasion of the celebration are :

The project "Promotion and protection of women's rights in Haiti", implemented by the organization CISV (Associazione Comunita Impegno Sevrizio Volontariato) which aims to improve the promotion and protection of women's rights and to promote gender equality in Haiti.

The project "Ansanm kont vyolans sou timoun" implemented by Plan International UK and which aims to strengthen the role of civil society in the protection of vulnerable children in Haiti.

The project "Education, gateway of the decentralization implemented in the school district of Jean Rabel", executed by the organization Adema (Ansanm pou yon demen miyo en Ayiti) and which aims to promote, with greater equity, access to quality education in the North West.

In Haiti, the European Instrument for Human Rights and Democracy has 6 million euros for the period 2008-2013 to enable support significant the organizations working for the improvement of respect for human rights and the citizen participation in Haiti. In Haiti, the EU has in particular, focused in recent years its support in the field of strengthening of human rights organizations, of the civil society, in order to fight against violence based on gender and promote the rights of the child.

Thus, this instrument allowed in 2010 and 2011 to finance the education of hundreds of disabled children, training of hundreds of juveniles in prison, the legal assistance to hundreds of female victims of sexual violence, the creation of the first complete university training in journalism in the country or again the observation of the entire electoral process by the Haitian civil society.
