Haiti - Education : 200 young people aged 18-25 will be trained
This morning, to the pilot Center of vocational training (CPFP) located in Chancerelle Varreux, was held the official launch of a program of vocational training in the areas of plumbing, electrical building, tiling, air conditioning, building construction and metal work, to the attention of 200 at-risk youth aged 18 to 25 years from the neighborhood of Cite Soleil, Carrefour Feuilles, Martissant and Bel Air.

This program is funded by the Program to reduce community violence (RVC) of the Minustah to the tune of USD$199,722 and executed by the Center of vocational training (CPFP), will allow to offer to 200 young people not attending school or school leavers living in areas of intervention of the Section RVC (Cité Soleil, Bel-Air, etc...) and in precarious economic situation the opportunity to learn a trade that will enable them to integrate the labor market or to create their own income-generating activities.

It will also provide a socio-economic assistance to the 200 young people participating in the vocational training project by allowing them to have a source of income for one month. They will receive guidance and psychosocial support needed to enable them to contribute at the level of their communities to prevent and reduce violence and to enable them to develop social leadership empowering them to participate actively in the activities and interventions aimed at strengthening community services.

The objectives of this new program are:

  • Create one month of work (work-intensive labor) for two hundred young people not attending school or school leavers and at the same time contribute to the environmental management of the institution who must administer this training ;
  • Train for 8 months, 200 young people not attending school or school leavers in the following disciplines: Plumbing, Electricity Building, Tile, Air Conditioning, Building Construction, Ironwork ;
  • Allow these 200 young people to make the learning of the concepts of reading and writing in Creole and numeracy core ;
  • Develop with the young psychosocial activities in the form of socio-cultural animation, of artistic creation, self-expression, counseling, listening, of reference, of relationship help, recreational excursion and output ;
  • Accompany the 200 young beneficiaries of the project to develop during their training in their respective training centers their civic responsibility, the respect of the norms and standards of community living together.
