Haiti - Dom. Rep. : Stricter surveillance measures on the border with Haiti

On Sunday, February 23, 2025, in a meeting in Dajabón, Faride Raful, the Minister of the Interior and Police, and the Director of Immigration, Vice Admiral Lee Ballester, announced the implementation of stricter border surveillance measures with Haiti.

Present at this meeting chaired by Minister Raful, in addition to the Mayor of Dajabón Santiago Riberon, were representatives of various sectors of the province. In her speech, Minister Raful stated that President Luis Abinader maintains an unwavering commitment to controlling irregular immigration, considering it a priority issue of national security.

For his part, Vice Admiral Lee Ballester, stressed that the new provisions will focus on strengthening border surveillance and optimizing controls at the entrance to the territory.

He announced that the deployment of migratory control operations would increase, with the incorporation of more vehicles and technological resources for the deportation and repatriation of irregular immigrants in Dominican territory.

Ballester also called for collaboration between the different sectors to implement the necessary adjustments in the border province, highlighting the support of President Abinader and Minister Raful in this challenge.

On the other hand, Minister Raful indicated that measures are being taken to increase the police presence in the different communities of Dajabón, which is part of the police reform that has already begun to bear fruit, according to the Minister.
