Haiti - Security : Martelly talks about the new public force 08/12/2011 10:29:45
When asked which country has offered its assistance for this new force, Michel Martelly answered "all countries. Everyone wants to help. Some do not want to have that the force has weapons, they would like a engineering corps, a medical corps but they do not want that they are armed, although 'armed force' means 'armed force' (laughs)." Concerning the commission whose he decree was published on Tuesday he declared "We created a commission to study and evaluate the return of the Armed Forces. We need a modern force, capable and ready to act in case of emergency [...] who will help rebuild the country," adding that "the Haitian government estimates that the new army can cost about 30 million, an insignificant amount compared to what the United Nations Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah) spends its operations."
