Haiti - Heritage : Rescue of the bells of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption
At work, for several days at the site of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption in the heart of the Haitian capital, at the request of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and in ccordance with the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince, the brasilian engineers of the Military Engineering Contingent (BRAENGCOY) of the Minustah have successfully last Saturday to remove one of the towers of over 10 meters high one of the three bells could fall at any time.

The peacekeepers are still hard at work and try, using their equipment to remove the other two bells.

The latter, manufacturedin April 1910, weigh about one ton and a half each. The Cathedral of the Assumption or Cathedral and the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince was opened for worship on December 20, 1914, after about ten years of work.
