![]() Haiti - Dominican Republic : Repatriated Haitians have difficulty finding their loved ones... 17/05/2025 09:59:47
Furthermore, returnees are experiencing difficulty returning home due to the distance between the border and their home regions, the presence of armed gangs, and the displacement of their loved ones. The organization reported (according to its figures) that 23,123 Haitians have been repatriated from the Dominican Republic as of April 2025 and that "Dominican immigration officials carried out these repatriations at various border crossings without taking into account the migrants' origins." 12,260 people were repatriated to Belladère (in the center of the border, near Elías Piña), 7,098 to Ouanaminthe (in the north, near Dajabón), 2,078 to Anse-à-Pitres (in the far south, near Pedernales), and 1,687 to Malpasse (in the south, near Jimaní). "Some migrants, upon arrival, are forced to remain at the border for several days. Some areas are difficult to access due to the permanent presence of armed groups, which prevents these migrants from reuniting with their loved ones," states the GAAR, which says it is overwhelmed by the situation due to the number of repatriated Haitians, emphasizing that their reception centers are overloaded. After being subjected to all kinds of pressure and humiliation from the Dominican authorities, these migrants arrive at the border completely destitute, most with no destination, laments the GAAR.
