Haiti - FLASH : Towards the creation of a Forward Operating Base at the Port of APN 27/05/2025 09:35:09
The Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS) has made the protection of Haiti's critical national infrastructure a top priority. Strategic sites, including Toussaint Louverture International Airport, seaports, schools, hospitals, and communications towers, are receiving enhanced security to ensure the continuity of essential services and preserve national stability. This proactive security posture plays a vital role in deterring acts of sabotage and maintaining the functionality and accessibility of these key facilities. In coordination with senior officials from the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Multinational Mission conducted a comprehensive assessment of the Port of APN. As the country's main maritime gateway, the APN is a pillar of Haiti's economic infrastructure, overseeing the operations of all public ports. Among them, the International Port of Port-au-Prince is the most strategic. The APN Port is a central element of Haiti's economic, humanitarian, and national security architecture. Protecting and modernizing this infrastructure is essential not only for economic recovery but also for strengthening long-term national resilience. For the MSS, securing the APN Port aims to ensure the uninterrupted flow of goods, build public confidence, and assert state authority in areas under gang control. The Mission is committed to ensuring that the port is fully under government control to allow legitimate transactions. The establishment of a Forward Operating Base (FOB) within the Port remains a priority. HL/ HaitiLibre
