Haiti - Miragoâne : 127 million Gdes for access to drinking water

As part of the Reform and Investment Program in the Drinking Water and Sanitation Sector, the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA), in collaboration with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), inaugurated the new Miragoâne Drinking Water Supply System (SAEP) this week.

This major project was carried out over a period of 30 months and cost 127 million gourdes. Funding was provided by the Spanish government through AECID.

This water infrastructure will improve access to drinking water for more than 19,000 residents of the Nippes metropolitan area. It is important to note that this project is part of the joint efforts of both institutions to strengthen basic infrastructure in the south of the country and contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which aims to ensure universal access to safe drinking water and sanitation.

Speakers praised the fruitful collaboration between DINEPA and the Spanish Cooperation, emphasizing the importance of this project in improving living conditions in the region. Engineer Ostinvil, Director General of DINEPA, stated that this system represents another step towards sustainable water resource management and illustrates the positive impact of international cooperation on local communities.

After the first part of the ceremony, the guests visited several key project facilities, including a home connected to the grid in the "Nan SERUM" area, as well as another connected in the city center, the "DELAI" water catchment site, where the symbolic ribbon cutting took place during the second part of the ceremony.
