Haiti - Economy : Towards a proactive diplomacy at the service of Haiti's economic development 11/06/2025 10:12:08
In a world where investments are being competed for on all fronts, Haiti cannot afford to remain on the sidelines. This dynamic is reflected in the Network of Haitian Embassies and Consulates Abroad (RACHE) program, a strategic initiative led by the Investment Facilitation Center (CFI) designed to elevate Haiti to the rank of competitive and attractive destinations in the Caribbean region. "The objective is to transform Haiti's diplomatic missions into true platforms for economic diplomacy, capable of effectively promoting the investment opportunities the country offers. Because beyond the challenges that sometimes tarnish its international perception, Haiti boasts many assets: a young, skilled, and multilingual workforce, a strategic location at the crossroads of the Americas, attractive tax incentives, and a market that is still largely underexploited. "Yet these riches are often overshadowed by narratives dominated by risk. The RACHE program aims to correct this imbalance. It offers a proactive approach, structured around three fundamental pillars : raising awareness among diplomatic and diaspora stakeholders, targeted promotion of priority sectors, and active participation in international trade missions. This program relies on the appointment of focal points within Haitian embassies and consulates, who are trained and equipped to coordinate promotional activities consistent with the CFI INVEST HAITI strategy. The goal is to anchor investment at the heart of Haiti's diplomatic mission by providing representations abroad with the necessary tools to effectively engage with the business community, identify opportunities, and build bridges with local economic stakeholders. "By mobilizing the diaspora, considered an invaluable cultural, financial, and entrepreneurial resource, RACHE amplifies its impact. The Haitian diaspora, with its dual affiliation and knowledge of host markets, constitutes a lever for economic development that is still underutilized." It thus becomes a co-actor in this development diplomacy. The stakes are high, explains the CFI : "It is not only about restoring Haiti's image, but above all about creating an environment conducive to economic recovery. RACHE aims to generate structural investments, strengthen the confidence of international partners, and stimulate the creation of sustainable jobs. The targeted sectors are: agribusiness, renewable energy, textiles, and outsourced services (BPO). These sectors meet concrete national needs and global market expectations. Upon its implementation, RACHE should lead to a significant increase in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows, better coordination of actions on the ground, and a stronger Haitian profile on the international stage. It will transform our diplomatic missions into competitiveness hubs, serving collective prosperity." See also : IH/ iciHaiti
