Haiti - Trade : Towards better coordination of trade policies in the country

The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MCI), through the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) program, held a feedback and orientation workshop at the Hotel Montana, focusing on a key study on trade coordination mechanisms in Haiti.

Paulemont Panel, Director of Trade, representing Minister James Monazard, opened the workshop by emphasizing that trade today represents much more than a simple lever for growth : it is a tool for sustainable development and the fight against poverty. For Haiti, he emphasized, the effectiveness of coordination mechanisms is essential to better integrate regional and international trade.

During this workshop, which presented the results of an in-depth analysis of the functioning of the Ministry's internal and partner structures for trade policy coordination, the results of a study conducted by consultant Jean Daniel Élie were presented in detail.

This study highlighted several weaknesses in the current system, including organizational flaws, administrative overlaps, and a lack of communication between the departments involved in coordinating trade activities.

Specific recommendations were made to strengthen the harmonization of actions, improve the flow of information, and implement more effective monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.

Madsen Gachette, National Coordinator of the CIR, expressed his satisfaction with the presentation of this report. He praised the active participation of representatives from the various departments, emphasizing that this study is of critical importance for the smooth functioning of the Ministry and the synergy of trade policy actions. He thanked all stakeholders, reaffirming the MCI's commitment to translating the study's recommendations into concrete measures to strengthen trade governance in Haiti and boost the sector.

The MCI's main technical departments actively participated in this workshop, including the Foreign Trade Directorate (DCE), the Legal Affairs Directorate (DAJ), the Coordination and Institutional Relations Directorate (DCRI), the Economic and Industrial Development Directorate (DEDI), the Quality Control and Consumer Protection Directorate (DCQPC), and the Haitian Bureau of Standardization (BHN).
