Haiti - Social : Christmas Solidarity with Sophia Martelly 23/12/2011 10:10:41
Hundreds of food kits and envelopes were distributed in the circumstances by the First Lady to the disabled person present. The beneficiaries have not failed to express their gratitude to Ms. Martelly who is against all forms of discrimination against this social category. The First Lady which was received on the occasion by the Secretary of State Gerald Oriol, is committed to keeping in touch with him to continue working to improve the lives of people with special needs. In her speech, the Secretary of State has focused on the sensitivity of Ms. Martelly to vulnerable segments of society. According to Mr. Oriol, the First Lady has been able to set the tone for other sectors of national life about the place to be given to the disabled. In addition, the First Lady of the Republic received at the National Palace, thirty wives and children of officers killed in the exercise of their profession, on the occasion of Christmas, celebrated this year under the sign of solidarity. In the presence of the Director General of the National Police of Haiti, Mr. Mario Andrésol, and the Secretary of State for Public Security, Mr. Réginald Delva, gifts and envelopes were distributed to the widows and orphans in order to encourage them in this particular context of family reunion. Following this approach of the First Lady to share this friendly moment with the wives of police officers killed, the commander of the National Police informed the creation of a special office within the police institution designed to support the grievances of the latter. Always in an effort to give special attention to the most vulnerable social groups on the occasion of the Christmas, the First Lady of the Republic visited the Social Welfare Fund (Caisse d'Assistance Sociale - CAS) where a distribution was made to the benefit of 1,500 people, including welfare of the institution. These visits and receptions of the First Lady are consistent with the logic of the Christmas of Solidarity launched by the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister that believe indispensable the spirit of harmony and understanding among all sectors to put the country on the path of real change and sustainable development.
