Haiti - Education : Warning against an unrecognized university in Cameroon

Augustin Antoine, the Minister of National Education, informs the national and international academic community that he has taken note of a press release recently published by the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, and Chancellor of Academic Orders of Cameroon, regarding an institution called "Université de la Renaissance d'Haïti Faculté Autonome Francophone de Management International" (URH-FAFMI).

The Minister informs that the Haitian government has never been informed of the existence of a private Haitian university operating in Cameroon under the name URH-FAFMI. Furthermore, he emphasizes that in Haiti, only four universities have doctoral schools and are legally authorized to offer postgraduate programs leading to the doctoral degree. These are the State University of Haiti (UEH), Quisqueya University (UNIQ), the Institute of Science, Technology, and Advanced Studies of Haiti (ISTEAH), and the University Institute for Executive Training (INUFOCAD).

Consequently, URH-FAFMI is only authorized to offer undergraduate programs (bachelor's degree). It is therefore not authorized to award master's or doctoral degrees. Therefore, any announcement or award ceremony of such academic titles by this entity, in Haiti or abroad, is devoid of any legal value under Haitian regulations.

Furthermore, the Minister warns the national and international academic community, as well as academic, scientific, economic, and social partners, against any attempt to recognize or use academic titles (bachelor's, master's, or doctoral) issued by unauthorized Haitian organizations. These diplomas have no legal value, either in Haiti or abroad.

The Minister urges students, their families, partner institutions, and the general public to remain vigilant regarding any questionable educational offerings, particularly abroad, and to systematically verify that the so-called Haitian institutions concerned have official accreditation issued by the Ministry in Haiti.

Furthermore, no applications for operating authorization for new universities will be accepted until the National Agency for Higher Education and Scientific Research (ANERS) is established.
