Haiti - Grand Nord : Grant of nearly 150 million to 58 schools

Following its tour of the Great South and funding of more than 160 million gourdes for 57 schools https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45584-haiti-grand-south-more-than-160-million-for-rehabilitation-work-on-57-schools.html , the National Education Fund (FNE), under the leadership of Director General Sterline Civil, is strengthening its efforts in the Great North and mobilizing nearly 150 million gourdes to revive 58 schools for the 2025-2026 school year.

From Sunday, the 24th, at 10:00 a.m., until Monday, the 25th, at 8:00 a.m., without interruption, the FNE delegation held a large-scale working session with approximately sixty school principals from the five departments of the Grand Nord (North, Northeast, Northwest, Center, and Artibonite). This unprecedented mobilization laid the concrete foundations for supporting the most vulnerable schools.

During these in-depth discussions, 58 selected schools, on the recommendation of the Departmental Directorates, received funding for some relocations and others for the rehabilitation of their infrastructure (roofing, painting, restrooms, electricity, equipment, etc...) The partial amount committed for this second phase amounts to 146,582,000 Gourdes, mobilized by the FNE to enable the beneficiary schools to welcome their students in more dignified and, above all, secure conditions.

Each beneficiary school principal signed a commitment agreement, obliging them to ensure transparent management and submit a report within 20 days. Any irregularities will result in an administrative investigation in accordance with oversight mechanisms, particularly in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Unit.

As in the Grand Sud region, all checks were handed over to the beneficiary school principals, in the presence of the departmental directors.

According to the Director, this initiative aims to address the bad practice of signing agreements with firms that often waste the money without repairing the schools. "School principals are the same authorities as I am, and they will have to answer to the appropriate authorities if they mismanage the funds," she warns.
