Back-to-School Failure

October 1st, the official start of the 2025-2026 school year, was a failure in Port-au-Prince. As early as 6:00 a.m., few students were seeking transportation to get to school. In a climate of uncertainty, the start of the school year began with low attendance, especially in public schools. In Ouanaminthe, public schools remained closed. In Les Cayes, some schools welcomed a few students, while others, although open, were deserted. Officials expect the number of students to increase the following week, as parents generally send their children to school the second week.

Haitian Pride in Italy

Iliana Joseph, a native of Port-de-Paix, was elected on September 29, 2025, Vice President of the Municipal Council of Settimo Torinese, a highly industrialized municipality of just over 45,000 inhabitants in the Metropolitan City of Turin in Piedmont, Italy. Iliana Joseph is one of the few women of foreign origin in all of Italy to have held this position.

Canada $40 million for the "Gang Suppression Force"

Energy : A Haitian delegation in Chile

The Ministry of Public Works (MTPTC) announces the participation of a Haitian delegation in the 10th Energy Week of the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) (September 26 to October 3, 2025, in Santiago, Chile). The delegation is led by Minister of Public Works Raphaël Hosty, accompanied by Evenson Calixte, Director General of the National Regulatory Authority for the Energy Sector (ANARSE), Jean Errol Morose, Director General of Electricité d'Haïti (EDH), Léonidas Pierre Davoust, Coordinator of the Energy Unit of the Ministry of Public Works, and Jacques Emmanuel Mexil, member of Minister Hosty's Cabinet.

New school in Maquillon

On Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, Maquillon, a locality located in Les Perches (Northeast and the Fort-Liberté district), officially opened the 2025-2026 school year and inaugurated the new Maquillon National School. The start of the school year was celebrated with recreational and educational activities, allowing children to familiarize themselves with their new surroundings.
