Haiti - Economy : Meeting on co-ownership, signing this Friday of a decree
Laurent Lamothe, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs, has organized this Wednesday, December 28, 2011, a working session with members of the business sector on the importance of the Decree relating to the co-ownership in favor of investments in the business diplomacy.

The Executive Secretary of the Presidential Advisory Council for Economic Development and Investment, Karl Jean-Louis, took the opportunity to reiterate the benefits of this Decree, which, according to him will revolutionize the real estate market in Haiti and allow international investors to locate in the country, and at the same time, ensure the rapid development on the basis of job creation and wealth.

The Minister Lamothe stressed, for his part, the possibility now for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to open the Haitian real estate market to a greater competitiveness by obtaining international partners willing to promote economic growth through business diplomacy.

The President of the Chamber of Agriculture, Agro-Industry and Biological Agriculture, Mr. Grégory Mevs, for his part stressed the opportunity to create production space fairly extensive in favor of international investors wishing to implement agricultural plants in conjunction with the Haitian private sector. This will allow faster development for food self-sufficiency, says Grégory Mevs.

Mr. Jerry Tardieu of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the West also explained the importance of this new legislation, which can offer to the middle classes faster access to housing and to a better price.

Mr. Marc Antoine Accra of the Association of Haitian Industrials (ADIH) believes that this legislation on co-ownership will reduce the pressure on land in Haiti and also allow developers to finance the modernization of major cities in Haiti as elsewhere.

Me Andy René, lawyer and member of the Executive Secretariat of the Presidential International Advisory Council tated that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the law on co-ownership in Haiti, has allowed to compare with the first legal efforts established since 1984, and to understand the amendments and corrections to ensure its effectively and efficiently implementation.

According to the Minister Lamothe, for 200 years, Haiti has had a very little number of construction in co-ownership. Existing laws are no longer appropriate compared to the globalization and international agreements. The idea of this meeting of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was to develop a dialogue on the issue with the private sector and to find a basis of consultation on the promulgation of the Decree of application that will come complete the 1984 Act and allow to the new legislation on co-ownership to be effective.

Chancellor Lamothe believes that it is necessary to move from words to action. According to him, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2012 will continue to invite friendly countries to delegate investors in the country. Haiti must also take the first step : remove the obstacles that hampering the future modernization of Haiti.

This Friday will be held at the National Palace the signing ceremony of the decree of application of the law on co-ownership.
