Haiti - Elections : Important meeting of stakeholders involved in the electoral process 12/11/2025 08:01:16
On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the Prime Minister's Office, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé chaired an important high-level meeting with all national and international stakeholders involved in the electoral process. The meeting aimed to strengthen consultation, ensure effective and harmonious coordination among all parties, and accelerate the electoral process. He reiterated the Government's commitment to credible, inclusive, and sovereign elections. Joining the Prime Minister were several members of the Cabinet, members of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), representatives of the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H), as well as technical and financial partners from the international community. Carlos Ruiz Massieu, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Haiti, participated in this meeting, during which he confirmed the technical and logistical support of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) and the United Nations for the process, as well as for efforts to create the security and political conditions conducive to the restoration of democratic institutions. Prime Minister Fils-Aimé emphasized the need for close, transparent, and continuous coordination between national institutions and international partners to guarantee free, inclusive, and credible elections. He reaffirmed that the Government remains the driving force behind the electoral process and that the Haitian State fully guarantees its sovereignty. The discussions allowed for an assessment of the security, logistical, and technical aspects of the process, while also laying the groundwork for the Sectoral Roundtable and the Donors' Roundtable, two essential mechanisms for ensuring coherence and mobilizing the resources necessary for the success of the elections. The Prime Minister noted that the Haitian government has already contributed $70 million to election financing from 2021 to date, paid into the common electoral fund (basket fund) managed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Furthermore, over 3 billion gourdes are allocated in the 2025-2026 budget to support the electoral financing of political parties ( https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46138-haiti-news-zapping.html ). In parallel, the government has launched a capacity-building program for political parties ( https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46118-haiti-flash-capacity-building-program-for-political-parties-video.html ). To date, more than 225 political parties have been registered with the Ministry of Justice. The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), for its part, has published the draft electoral decree, which is currently under discussion with stakeholders. By the end of November, the electoral decree ( https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46111-haiti-flash-electoral-decree-revealed-diaspora-and-women-voting-mandatory.html ) and the electoral calendar will be published—two key instruments for implementing the electoral process. Fils-Aimé commended the spirit of collaboration among national institutions and international partners, while emphasizing that the success of the electoral process depends first and foremost on the mobilization of the Haitian people.
