Haiti - Social : Sophia Martelly completes her tour to Fonds-des-Nègres
Sophia Martelly, the First Lady of the Republic of Haiti was yesterday Friday, January 6, 2012 to Fonds-des-Nègres and to Léogâne, respectively, where she visited a community school "La Famille" and the Asylum St. Vincent de Paul, a residence for the elderly and young physically handicapped and/or mental.

In Fonds-des-Nègres, the First Lady has made its final distribution of kits across the country, as part of the "Christmas Solidarity". She brought to school children toys and other playthings. The goal was to bring a smile and reassure them in regard to her very great concern in their regard. The community school "La Famille" had served as temporary shelter to many victims of January 12, 2010.

While encouraging the respect of the family and moral and cultural values with these young, Ms. Martelly invited the community of Fonds-des-Nègres to adopt new attitudes towards the disadvantaged. She promises to frame any initiative aimed at promoting children's rights and their full development. Approach favorably received by the school officials of "La Famille" who see it as an proof of a real commitment of the First Lady for the disadvantaged youth of the country.

This tour, also led the First Lady, to the Asylum St. Vincent de Paul, in Léogane, where she was received by the Sisters of this community who hosts approximately two hundred people in need, young and old, some with mental disabilities and/or physical. She encouraged them and asked them not to give up.

Always sensitive to their cause, as well as those that support them, Ms. Martelly, during a long discussion with the Sisters administrators of the Asylum St Vincent de Paul, has promised to meet certain needs of this community of good people who, despite this difficult struggle, preserve in them an incredible life force and exemplary.

The First Lady of the Republic remains attached to the cause of senior citizens as well as that of young disadvantaged children of Haiti for which she makes a daily plea to the authorities concerned for a better management of their situation.
